Kirchmayr Chocolatier, a Baltimore staple for 32 years, is closing its doors after Easter. Albert Kirchmayr says he will close after the last of the Easter candy is made.

The uncertainty of his lease at 9630 Deereco Road and the coronavirus pandemic's dramatic impact on business throughout the nation has hastened his decision. His lease came up April 1 and he had to decide whether to take on another five years. He said if he was younger — he's 64 — the decision would have been easier. He still hopes his two long-time employees might be able to find another 1,200-square-foot spot to continue the business in another location. As for recipes being passed down, he says he and his employees laugh that the recipes are all in their head.
