City Stadiums Increase Security (BBJ Story)

The Baltimore Business Journal

Upcoming games at Baltimore's M&T Bank Stadium and Oriole Park at Camden Yards will see heightened security after two mass shootings elsewhere in the country claimed the lives of more than 30 people over the weekend.

Vernon Conaway, who handles security at both stadiums, said in a Maryland Stadium Authority board meeting Tuesday that there will be "an additional, supplemental police presence" outside the stadiums to reassure fans. There are no specific threats against the venues or teams. But the Stadium Authority said it just wants to reassure fans with the police presence that they’re in a safe environment. The decision follows two deadly attacks on public places over the weekend. On Saturday, a gunman killed at least 22 people and injured two dozen more in a shooting at a Walmart in El Paso, Texas. Another nine people died in a shooting early Sunday at an entertainment district in Dayton, Ohio.
