Don’t call it a comeback, because freedom never goes out of style. Frederick County Public Libraries, in conjunction with Flying Dog and the 1st Amendment Society, present a speaker series focusing on our American right to speak freely. Attendees must be 21 and over. The acclaimed legal scholar Floyd Abrams argues that while we share many legal values with Canada, Europe and other democracies, the United States stands alone in its vigorous protection of freedom of expression. Language that President Donald Trump uses to describe immigrants, Muslims, and others would be considered criminal conduct in much of Europe. Why do we protect the most vile hate speech, ignoring the worth of any speech in favor of the right of citizens to say it? Join us for a discussion with WYPR's Tom Hall on all of the above and more for our first Freedom Reads of the summer.
