BALTIMORE—Art with a Heart—a non-profit arts organization based in Hampden—will host a celebration, Friday, August 10, from 5:30 to 8 p.m., at its social enterprise/retail store, HeARTwares (3000 Falls Road, Mill No. 1, Baltimore, MD, 21211) in Hampden. This free event will feature live music from Beatles cover band the Mahoney Brothers; food and drinks from Zeffert & Gold, and a community art project. Guests also can purchase one-of-a-kind artwork, jewelry, house ware items, garden ornaments and assorted gifts handmade by Art with a Heart program participants and volunteers. All proceeds will support Art with a Heart’s workforce development program, HeARTworks, now in its 13th year. Participating youth (ages 14-24) work at HeARTwares producing marketable art and receiving a daily stipend contingent upon attendance and timeliness. While gaining real job experience and compensation, the youth learn how to comply with rules and procedures of a jobsite, work in a retail store and interact with the public in a meaningful and appropriate manner.
