Weekend Program Changes: WYPR Adds The Splendid Table

Beginning on July 6, WYPR will be making some changes to our Sunday afternoon schedule.

The first change was not our choice: after a very successful nine year run, Justice Talking has lost funding and ceased production. The last new program was broadcast in May, and we’ve been airing repeats through the month of June. We’ve had a close association with Justice Talking over the years. One of our very first events as WYPR was hosting a taping of the program at Evergreen. You can learn more about why the producers of Justice Talking decided to end their run by clicking hereJustice Talking was an important show, and it will be missed.

While we are sad to see Justice Talking go, we are pleased to announce that we will be adding The Splendid Table, winner of the 2008 James Beard Award for radio food show, to the weekend line-up. Produced and distributed by American Public Media™ in Saint Paul, Minn., The Splendid Table is a culinary, culture and lifestyle one-hour program that celebrates the intersection of food and life. Each week, The Splendid Table’s Lynne Rossetto Kasper leads public radio audiences on a journey of the senses and leads discussions with a variety of writers and personalities who share their passion for the culinary delights.  The program is on the Web at http://www.splendidtable.org/. For the past few years, we’ve aired Lynne’s Turkey Confidential on Thanksgiving Day, and it has been the most-requested addition to our weekend programs from our listeners. For those of you who haven’t heard it, you’re in for a treat.

The Splendid Table will air at noon, right after A Prairie Home CompanionCar Talk will move to 1:00 P.M., and On the Media will move to 2:00 P.M. Everything else remains the same.

As always, thanks for making WYPR your NPR news station, and have a great summer!
