Understanding "The Violence of Care"

NYU Press

Marquette University Anthropology Professor SameenaMulla spent four years researching sexual assault forensic examinations in a Baltimore emergency room.  She found that some hospital and state standards could get in the way of the prosecution of the crime. She joins Sheilah Kast by phone to discuss her research and her new book, "The Violence of Care."

A Monument to Survivors of Sexual Assault

The Monument Quilt which was sewn here in Baltimore features 200 stories from survivors of rape and abuse. The local activist group FORCE: Upsetting Rape Culture is behind The Monument Quilt, and the traveling project which just wrapped up a 13 city tour on Tuesday.

You can see photos here and listen to a Maryland Morning segment about one of the quilting workshops.

Sheilah Kast is the host of On The Record, Monday-Friday, 9:30-10:00 am.
