Self-Reflection, Organic Soul Revolution, And Deborah Weiner at The Stoop

Steven Pearson's exhibit, Self-Reflection; the live music showcase, Organic Soul Revolution;  Deborah Weiner shares a story at The Stoop

Steven Pearson spends a lot of time hanging other people’s art on gallery walls.  He’s an art professor at McDaniel College, and he directs the Prangley Rice Gallery on campus there in Westminster, Maryland.  Now it’s his turn for the spotlight.  In Baltimore, School 33 Art Center has just opened a solo exhibition by Steven Pearson titled, Self Reflection.  As you’re about to hear, Pearson has managed to squeeze his entire painting career into just a few, stunning, abstract images.  Producer Aaron Henkin has the story.

It started thirteen years ago as a grassroots open-mic and jam session on Tuesday nights in a basement on Saratoga Street, and it’s grown into a Baltimore institution.  The long-running music showcase, Organic Soul Revolution, takes the stage again Tuesday January 27th at the Downtown Cultural Art Center, and the line-up is packed with talented performers.  Founder Olu Butterfly and musician Jahiti join Aaron Henkin for a preview.

And now for a story about ‘making a name for yourself’…  Baltimore television news anchor and reporter Deborah Weiner of WBAL-TV 11 shared this tale in front of a live audience at Bolton Street Synagogue as part of a Stoop Storytelling event titled,  It’s Complicated:  The joys and oys of contemporary Jewish life.
