Potential Merger Between Pikesville Clubs (BBJ Story)

The Baltimore Business Journal

Two of Pikesville's storied country clubs, Woodholme and Suburban, have had early talks about a potential merger, a deal that would have to be approved by members of both clubs. The clubs told members in letters that they face challenges in attracting new members.

The clubs were founded to cater to Baltimore’s Jewish communities. David Nevins, a Woodholme member, said on behalf of the club that partnerships are also being talked about. He said everybody is approaching the talks with an open mind. The closure or merger of country clubs and golf courses isn't unusual at a time when many clubs have struggled to attract increasingly busy Americans. The U.S. Golf Economy Report, created by golf's governing bodies and industry partners, reported that there was a net decline of 737 golf facilities between 2011 and 2018.
