Between 1910 and 1970, six million African Americans left the South in order to escape racial violence there. Dubbed “The Great Migration,” Pulitzer Prize-winning author Isabel Wilkerson reminds us that these people fled not only horrific physical violence but “human rights abuses and exclusion from voting and citizenship.” An exhibit from The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission examines The Great Migration in Prince George’s County, as well as migration and immigration that followed there.
