Three days before Earth Day 2017 we look at several efforts to build momentum for a healthy environment. Up first, Carl Simon, interim director of the environmental watchdog group “Blue Water Baltimore,” tells us about a host of activitiesfor Earth Day, from down-and-dirty trash removal to fledgling trees and flowers for planting.

Then, Goucher College will screen the documentary “City of Trees,” which features a job training program in Washington DC. The training centers on urban forestry, and participants are tasked with beautifying neglected parks. We hear from filmmaker Brandon Kramer.

Sheilah Kast is the host of On The Record, Monday-Friday, 9:30-10:00 am.
Maureen Harvie is Senior Supervising Producer for On the Record. She is a graduate of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, and joined WYPR in 2014 as an intern for the newsroom. Whether coordinating live election night coverage, capturing the sounds of a roller derby scrimmage, interviewing veterans, or booking local authors, she is always on the lookout for the next story.
