Death with Dignity

Mar 9, 2015

Five states allow doctor to assist terminally ill patients in dying — Oregon, Washington, Montana, Vermont and New Mexico. As the Maryland General Assembly considers the issue, we take a look at both sides of the “right to die” debate. Some call it "death with dignity," others see it as "physician-assisted suicide." Our guests: Brandi Alexander, regional campaign manager for the Maryland branch of Compassion & Choices, which supports legislation to allow doctor assistance with death for some patients in Maryland; and Samantha Crane, board member of Not Dead Yet, a disability rights organization that opposes assisted suicide.

Brittany Maynard, a 29-year-old woman with terminal brain cancer, drew national attention when she announced her decision to move to Oregon to legally end her life.
