Cultivating Empathy and Tolerance

Provided by Loyola University Maryland

Spending any time with the headlines these days raises questions about tolerance, or the absence of it. Writer Adam Gopnikhas pondered tolerance a lot,  and it’s at the core of the talk he’ll deliver Thursday for the 31st annual Jerome S. Cardin Memorial Lecture, at Loyola University Maryland. Gopnik spoke with us about why willingness to compromise or practicing empathy shouldn’t be mistaken for an inability to stand up for your beliefs. Plus, Loyola philosophy professor Drew Leder discusses how reconnecting with nature can cultivate empathy and tolerance for others.
