Without the land Battles of North Point and Hampstead Hill, where thousands of citizen soldiers, one fifth of which were African-Americans, delayed the British, the rockets’ red glare and the Birth of our National Anthem at Ft. McHenry might have had a very different outcome.
The Creative Alliance and the Friends of Patterson Park, will host the Hampstead Hill Festival on September 14th, near the Pagoda. This free festival will include a history village, historical re-enactors, and a rock opera about the Battle. Scott Sheads, author, historian, and ranger at Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine, tells us a more about the Battle of Hampstead Hill and those who defended it.
