AmeriCorps at 20, When Night Unravels, and Illustrator David Plunkert

A radio profile of AmeriCorps service members at work around Maryland; music and conversation with ukulele songstress VictoriaVox; and artist David Plunkert takes us inside his job as a professional illustrator

“I will get things done for America - to make our people safer, smarter, and healthier.”  A cynic might assume this is a line from a political campaign speech.  That cynic would be mistaken.  These words are the beginning of a pledge taken by citizens upon their induction into AmeriCorps.  AmeriCorps is often described as ‘the domestic counterpart of the Peace Corps,’ and this year, the national service organization celebrated its 20th anniversary.  To honor the occasion, The Signal’s Aaron Henkin brings us a profile of some current AmeriCorps service members at work here in Maryland.

Victoria Vox has done a lot of musical experimenting over the years. She’s an accomplished singer and songwriter, a master of the ukulele, she plays guitar, and as it turns out, she’s also recognized for another, lesser known, but equally awesome talent.   She joins producer Lisa Morgan in studio with a preview of her latest musical exploration, When the Night Unravels
