It’s possible you could be hearing bugling in Maryland a lot more.  Not of a trumpet...of an elk.  It was a common sound in Maryland in the 1700s, when many elk lived here.  Not anymore.  But the state is considering re-introducing elk into the Free State, in Garrett and Allegany Counties.  The push is being led by the Maryland Legislative Sportsmen Foundation, which says elk would attract tourists who want to look at them … and possibly, in the future, would attract hunters.

The foundation is partnering with the state’s Department of Natural Resources and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation to explore the possibility.

Sheilah talks about it with Tom Toman, Director of Conservation the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.
