Thursday April 5, 12 - 1 pm: Midday on American Culture - Redefining Black Masculinity

In this month's Midday on American Culture, commentator Sheri Parks is joined by Shantrelle Lewis, curator of Dandy Lion: Articulating a Re(de)fined Black Masculinity, an exhibit at the Reginald F. Lewis Museum in Baltimore, for a look at hip-hop generation elegance as expression of black masculinity. Replacing sagging jeans and exposed boxers with ascots and three-piece suits, the black dandy is redefining what it means to be black and male. This comes as a direct challenge to stereotypes -- and just as some would blame a hooded sweatshirt for the shooting death of a black teenager in Florida.
