If a song plays on the radio and it was recorded anytime between the 1930s and 1960s, chances are it could have been penned by the late Johnny Mercer. Mercer wrote the lyrics of more than 1,100 songs before his death in 1976.
Local country musician Arty Hill is known for his 'modern honky tonk' style and is a fan of Mercer. Hill has organized a tribute to Mercer called "Arty Hill Presents Blues in the Night." The event is Feb. 8 at the Creative Alliance in Baltimore. Actress and singer Mink Stole and jazz singer Felicia Carter will sing some of Mercer's classics.
Mink Stole and guitarist Michael Raitzyk give Tom a preview of a couple of songs in the studio.
