This week on Midday on The Law: A look at the Obama administration's decision to order confessed 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and four other alleged co-plotters to trial before a military commission at Guantanamo. The decision is an embarrassing reversal. President Obama had criticized military commissions as a candidate, and U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder had announced with much fanfare that the five men would face justice in a courtroom in lower Manhattan. Mr. Holder blamed the decision on Congress prohibiting the transfer of detainees from the Guantanamo military prison to the U.S. for trial. Is this the best decision in the interest of justice? Attorneys Jim Astrachan and Julie Rubin debate the question. We'll also look at hate crimes, and whether one occurred at a Baltimore-area McDonald's last week when two teenage girls attacked a transgender woman in the restaurant.
