Maryland Morning's Tom Hall and theater critic J. Wynn Rousuck discuss the Hippodrome's production of "Flashdance-The Musical" which Rousuck says is better than the 1983 film of the same name.

The film and the play center on a young woman named Alex who is a welder by day, and a stripper by night. Neither of these professions are what she really wants to do-she longs to be in the ballet.

In addition to the image on the right, the music of "Flashdance" is quite iconic as well, including "Maniac" and "What a Feeling."

The play features five songs from the film's soundtrack, plus 16 new songs that Rousuck says are a good mix of "80's and Broadway."

"Flashdance-The Musical" continues at the Hippodrome until Feb. 17.

Flash Dance

If Tom didn't see the original film, it may be that he saw the Peanuts adaptation, "Flash Beagle". It was highly promoted due to the hand drawn animation of the final dance scene done by Snoopy and the dance stunt double for Jennifer Beals
