This month marks 150 years since President Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation, freeing slaves in the Confederate states midst the Civil War. Three historians tell the story of Lincoln's order and its pivotal significance in the war and the abolitionist crusade. Our guests: Kaye Wise Whitehead, who teaches communications and African-American studies at Loyola University Maryland; Lawrence Peskin, associate professor of history at Morgan State University; and Richard Striner, professor of history at Washington College and author of "Father Abraham: Lincoln’s Endless Struggle to End Slavery."
