9-5-12: A Mobtown Moon

One of the most intriguing musical projects going on in Baltimore this season is one that brings musicians from the pop, jazz and classical worlds together to re-imagine one of the most influential and well-known progressive rock albums of all time.
In March 1973, Pink Floyd released their 8th studio album, "Dark Side of the Moon." To celebrate the 40th anniversary of that iconic record this spring, the composer/performers Sandy Asirvatham and ellen cherry have assembled a wide array of local musicians who will perform new arrangements of the music. We’ll take a sneak peak at a couple of those arrangements this morning, and they’ll offer more samples on Saturday, September 8, at the Creative Alliance in Baltimore. They call the project Mobtown Moon.
If you can't make it this weekend, a full-length CD will be released in March 2013, exactly 40 years after the original album. And next fall, there will be another big performance for hundreds of fans. You can keep up to date on the Mobtown Moon website and by following them on Twitter.
