In 2004, musician Dan Deacon moved to Baltimore with some college friends. Their Wham City arts collective quickly became one of the most prolific hives of creativity in the city. Deacon’s unique blend of pop noise and avant garde composition soon took off nationally, leading to a performance at Carnegie Hall and a gig scoring a Francis Ford Coppola film. Deacon’s highly anticipated third album comes out August 28. It’s called America.

Maryland Morning music critic Tim Kabara tells us why you can’t have Dan Deacon’s America…without Baltimore.

Dan Deacon plays the Ottobar in Baltimore tomorrow night, Saturday, September 15. It’s sold out, but you can find more information about the show at theottobar.com.
