In July, Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake chose Chris Tonjes to be Baltimore’s new Chief Information Officer. He was CIO of Washington DC’s public library system before starting here six weeks ago. He takes the position after a tumultuous six months for the Mayor’s Office of Information Technology. 

Last February, the previous CIO, Rico Singleton, resigned. An audit alleged he had committed ethical violations at his previous job with the New York state government. The Mayor’s IT department was again in the news this past summer when Comptroller Joan Pratt said some phone-related equipment purchases violated city rules. 

Chris Tonjes joined us to talk about everything from managing 911 to the city's open data initiative, Open Baltimore.
