The number of contraband cigarettes being into Maryland is way up from previous years. State Comptroller Peter Franchot joins us to discuss the reasons behind the increase--and how he wants to stop it.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's conservation plan seeks to protect the endangered Indiana bat, which researchers say has made Garrett County's Backbone Mountain its home. Also home to Backbone Mountain is the Criterion Wind Project. Conservationists say the 28 wind turbines can injure or kill the small Indiana bat. Dr. Gwen Brewer of the Maryland Department of Natural Resources tells Nathan Sterner about efforts to ensure the bats and turbines can coexist.

Author Laura Lippman talks about her latest mystery novel, "And When She Was Good"--and how being a mom influenced her writing style.
