Everyone has an AFRO story.

Growing Up AFRO: Snapshots of Black Childhood from the Afro-American Newspapers is a collection of 120 images exhibited at the Reginald F. LewisMuseum of African American History & Culture from the AFRO's archives that demonstrates the role of youth throughout the newspaper's expansive history. Youth involvement is and has always been a major aspect of the AFRO; current publisher and CEO John J. Oliver, Jr. "grew up AFRO" himself.
The role of youth, according to the exhibit, fits into six different themes: A Child Shall Lead; Children of All Seasons; Games We Play; Growing Up Afro; Worth A Thousand Words; and Golden School Days.
Growing Up AFRO opened on June 23rd and runs until December 30th. John Gartrell, curator and AFRO archivist shows Tom around the exhibit. He'll be giving a talk about it at the Lewis Saturday, July 28th at 1:00 PM.
