7-23-12: Please Don't Sell the Piano

ellen cherry, who intentionally spells her stage name in lowercase letters, is known around Baltimore as a songwriter and performer as well as a master of instruments, including the guitar, piano, and cello. Ellen's voice, however, is her greatest tool, and not just in quality. She often sings from the perspective of the subject in her songs, creating compelling characters that spur a listener along as if he was watching a film.
Please Don't Sell the Piano is Ellen's latest release -- a compilation of six tracks that explore new stories accompanied by piano melodies, all of which she wrote herself. Today, Ellen joins Tom in the studio to talk about the new CD, her writing process, and collaborations with other acclaimed artists, and to play a brand new song not yet released on an album.
