6-20-12: A Partnership with the Port on the Point?

Sparrows Point is synonymous with steel, but as steelmaking on the point comes to at least a temporary standstill, people are looking for ways to bring other jobs to the peninsula. Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz sees an opportunity in the Port of Baltimore, which is hoping to expand. To figure out possible uses, he’s formed the Sparrows Point Partnership, which meets for the first time tomorrow.
Sheilah speaks with the County Executive about the partnership, which will hold its first meeting Thursday, June 21, 2012, 8:30-10:00 a.m. at Maryland Port Administration headquarters in the World Trade Center, 401 East Pratt Street, Baltimore, Maryland, 21202. It's open to the public.
The Port of Baltimore originally told us they’d join this conversation, but yesterday they said, no. They gave us this statement: “The developments involving Sparrows Point are fairly recent. We are evaluating the situation and what it could mean to the Port of Baltimore. At this point, it is premature for us to comment on any potential impact or opportunities that may be associated with Sparrows Point.”
