Writer Daniel Torday lived in Baltimore for only about four years while he was in high school nearly two decades ago. But, Baltimore is all through the novella he just published, called The Sensualist. In 175 short pages it gets deep into the story of Sam, a Jewish kid coping with being a teenager in Pikesville and his budding friendship with Dmitri, an immigrant from Russia, also Jewish. Sheilah talks with him about the book.
These days, Daniel Torday heads the creative writing department at Bryn Mawr College. Torday's work has been featured in Esquire Magazine, The Kenyon Review, and the New York Times blog Opinionator.
