If you’ve driven along Reisterstown Road in Owings Mills, you may have noticed an old Solo Cup Factory, at the intersection of Painters Mill Road.  That factory is now empty, but a developer, Greenberg Gibbons, wants to build a shopping center featuring a Wegmans supermarket there.  In August, the Baltimore County Council approved a zoning change that would allow the shopping center ….but other Owings Mills develoeprs, including Howard Brown and Kimco, say their developments would be hurt by the Wegmans, and this would be too much retail in one area.

Meanwhile, David Cordish, whose name most of us know because his firm owns the Maryland Live! casino owns a development WAY on the other side of the county, in Middle River.  Why is David Cordish. He's worried about another new zoning change,  which would allow the Middle River Depot to be built near a Cordish development—the Carroll Island shopping center. 

Firms linked to Brown and Cordish petitioning the zoning changes to a referendum.  They've gathered 170,000--they only needed 60,000 to put it on the ballot.    You can see the referendum pitch here.
