If you talk to most opera fanatics, they’ll tell you that their love of opera started early. Maybe their parents listened to the Met broadcasts every Saturday afternoon. Or, maybe they were taken to the opera by their grandparents.
A local publisher is sharing her love of opera with children with a series of beautifully illustrated books that tell the stories of famous operas, and the composers who wrote them. The imprint is called “Babetta’s World”, and the woman behind it is Monica Lapenta. She joins Tom in the studio.
Lyric Opera Baltimore will present La Boheme at the Modell Performing Arts Center at the Lyric this weekend. Anna Samuil sings the lead role. The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra is in the pit. There are two performances, Friday night and Sunday afternoon. You can find out more of Lapenta's version of La Boheme at their website. Here's a trailer for the book:
