10-24-12: A Childhood to Write About

Next Tuesday, October 30, the Baltimore Speakers Series will continue with a writer who built a career as a gossip columnist – even wrote a book about the history and politics of dishing the dirt – before she decided to tell the true story of her own past, growing up with three siblings, a brilliant but alcoholic father, and an educated but loopy mother. The result was the memoir The Glass Castle. Jeanette Walls published it in 2005, and it stayed on the NY Times best-seller list for five years.
She talks with Sheilah in advance of her appearance at the Speakers Series next week.
