Virginia governor wants to eliminate gas tax

Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell on Tuesday proposed eliminating the state's 17.5-cent-per-gallon gas tax and replacing the revenue it generates with an increase in the sales tax, the Washington Business Journal reported.

If passed by the General Assembly, which starts is session on Wednesday, it would make Virginia the first state in the nation to eliminate a state tax on gasoline.
