University of Maryland, St. Joseph deal expected to close Dec. 1

University of Maryland Medical System expects to complete its acquisition of St. Joseph Medical Center on Dec. 1, the medical system said Wednesday.

A new organization, the University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center LLC, will take over all hospital operations once the transaction closes. The deal is pending final regulatory approval.

Former Maryland state senator and longtime UMMS board member Francis X. Kelly will serve as chairman of the new organization.
