Sucampo files patent-infringement suit over constipation treatment

Sucampo Pharmaceuticals Inc. has filed a patent-infringement lawsuit against Anchen Pharmaceuticals and Par Pharmaceuticals Inc. over plans by Anchen to market a generic version of Sucampo’s treatment for constipation.

The Bethesda-based pharmaceutical company filed the suit in U.S. District court in Delaware on Feb. 7. The lawsuit is Sucampo’s response to an Abbreviated New Drug Application filed by Anchen with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
