Rawlings-Blake eyes tax credit for downtown apartment developers

Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake plans to introduce a bill before City Council this fall to create a 15-year tax credit for developers of downtown apartment projects.

The credit would encourage developers to convert under-utilized office buildings or outdoor parking lots into apartments as more people want to live in Baltimore’s downtown core. A recent study said the city’s downtown could absorb an additional 5,000 apartment units over the next five years.
