Pimlico spring schedule to see increase in purses

The Maryland Racing Commission on Tuesday approved a 36-day spring schedule at Pimlico Race Course, headlined by the $1 million running of the Preakness Stakes on May 18.

The 2013 spring schedule includes 21 open stakes race with a combined purse of $3.775 million, up $625,000 from last year. Additional Maryland-bred stakes races and Maryland-bred bonuses to some of the existing stakes will boost the final figure to more than $4 million.
