Obama to nominate Hagel as Pentagon chief

President Barack Obama on Monday will nominate former Nebraska GOP Sen. Chuck Hagel to be his next secretary of defense, the Washington Times reported.

Republicans have made clear that the nomination faces a rough ride for Senate confirmation, with tough questions on Hagel's support for Israel, his seriousness about the Iranian nuclear threat, and commitment to an adequate defense budget, in the offing.
