Komen Maryland Race for the Cure falls short of fundraising goal
Komen Maryland’s signature Race for the Cure in Hunt Valley in October generated lower-than-expected participation and fundraising, which the nonprofit attributed in part to the tarnished image of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
Komen Maryland raised $1.8 million and had about 23,000 participants in October’s Hunt Valley race, compared with $3 million in fundraising and almost 33,000 participants last year. The organization was looking to raise at least as much as it did last year.
