Fiscal cliff deal sours tax reform outlook

The prospect of an overhaul in 2013 of the U.S. tax code has faded since last week's fiscal cliff deal, Reuters reported.

Democrats are still pushing to raise more government revenue by closing tax breaks, and Republicans are arguing that the tax debate is over. The standoff is crushing any hopes that Washington could summon the political will needed for a comprehensive cleanup and simplification of the tax system.
