Defense nominee Hagel hammered by Republicans
President Obama's nominee for secretary of defense was hammered by former Senate colleagues at his confirmation hearing Thursday, the New York Times reported.
Chuck Hagel, a former GOP senator from Nebraska, faced sharp and sometimes angry questioning from fellow Republicans, especially his old friend Sen. John McCain, who ran against Obama for president in 2008. Most observers expect that despite heavy criticism Hagel will be confirmed.
