Baltimore Mayor Delivers the State of the City Address

Today at City Hall, Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake delivered her fourth State of the City address. She was expected to announce significant reductions in city expenditures, but left many questions unanswered. WYPR’s Bret Jaspers has more.

Bret Jaspers: After last week’s release of a report that forecast a dire 10-year fiscal situation for Baltimore, many anticipated a speech outlining significant cuts to city worker compensation. While the Mayor did say that the city needs to adopt a 401(k)-style retirement structure for new civilian employees, other major proposals were left for the future.

Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake: In the coming weeks and months, I will present many of the specific details of this financial plan. If anything, the financial plan will serve future mayor and and city councils before it serves our own politics.
