Behind CareFirst's 25 percent premium hike, honoring fallen policemen and firemen, MICA's Fred Lazarus stepping down, Maryland Morning Culture Calendar

Maryland's largest health insurer, CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield, has proposed a 25 percent hike in premiums for individual plans. CareFirst says the Affordable Care Act is driving the proposed increase. We talk with CEO Chet Burrell.

Prince George's County police officer Adrian Morris was killed in the line of duty last August. He will be one of seven honored Friday at this year's Fallen Heroes Day at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens. We talk with one of his friends and fellow officers.

The bold type and fluorescent images of Baltimore’s Globe Poster Company were great advertising for touring bands back in the heyday of R & B.  Now, to the creators’ surprise, they’re considered works of art.  The Globe Poster collection has been purchased by MICA, and we’ll drop in there to talk with longtime Globe shop operators Bob & Frank Cicero

At a Maryland Institute College of Art printmaking studio, the walls are lined with drawers of methodically arranged typesetting blocks, and down the middle of the room is a row of mechanical Vandercook proof presses.

About a year ago, Baltimore lost one of its leading arts advocates when Nancy Haragan, the founding Director of the Greater Baltimore Cultural Alliance, died of cancer.  Our own Tom Hall worked closely with Nancy and other arts leaders as a member of the GBCA board. On December 6th of last year, Tom offered this remembrance.
