Maryland's fallen, Maryland 400, a review of "The Submission," doping spellers, Michael Collier

Today, Memorial Day, we'll read the names of Marylanders recently lost to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Maryland is known as the Old Line State, thanks to a group of Revolutionary War soldiers known as the Maryland 400.

Then – During the Civil War, northern women made quilts for Union soldiers.  Now, quilters are making them for those who've lost family in today’s wars.  We’ll meet a Maryland mother who received one.

Stitchers around the country are making quilts for those who’ve lost family members in Iraq or Afghanistan. We speak with a Maryland woman who received such a quilt, and the national coordinator of the project. Also, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War member Peter L. Johnston tells Sheilah how America has honored its fallen since 1868.  And Tom Hall speaks with the writer Dudley Clendinen about how ALS is affecting his emotional state, and the emotional state of those around him.
