Bill Henry looks on during Monday's city council meeting.Baltimore City has what’s known as a “strong mayor” form of government, in which the executive branch has powers that far outweigh those of the council.  Now, one of the councilmembers is sponsoring a package of four charter amendments that would shift that balance of power.

69 Maryland residents died as a result of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. The 9/11 Memorial of Maryland, which is located at Baltimore's Inner Harbor, was dedicated in 2011 to honor those victims.



9-7-12: The Future of Sparrows Point

What's the future for Sparrows Point? Image courtesy of Creative Commons / sevensixfive.At some point in the next several weeks, the sale of Sparrows Point steel mill from RG Steel to a Chicago-based liquidator Hilco Industrial is expected to become final.  The mill was sold at a bankruptcy auction for RG Steel last month.

Courtesy of the Antietam National Battlefield150 years ago, in early Sept 1862, the United States was in peril. Union forces had won a string of victories in the spring, but after a new general, Robert E. Lee, took command of southern troops in June, the tide seemed to have turned.  By late summer, it suddenly seemed possible the Confederacy could win the war.
