A Red Line Through Baltimore: Tuesday April 30, 12-1 pm

If all goes according to plan, the Maryland Transit Administration’s long-debated Red Line, connecting southeastern Baltimore City with the west side of Baltimore County, will be up and running by 2021. A look at the early stages of the Red Line plans with Henry Kay, executive director of the Maryland Transit Administration’s Transit Development and Delivery office; Osborne Anthony, the Red Line’s chief architect; and Baltimore architect Klaus Philipsen.

A conversation with architect Klaus Philipsen about urban spaces and the need to move people around them and to them -- the challenges of retrofitting old cities like Baltimore for modern transportation systems while accommodating pedestrians and bikers.

During the first in a new Midday series on urban design and planning, architect Klaus Philipsen, co-chair of the Urban Design Committee of the Baltimore chapter of the American Institute of Architects, talks about the role design plays in city life and Baltimore's future. Philipsen is president of ArchPlan Inc. and is president and co-founder of D center, a Baltimore-based non-profit that works to advance the field of design.
