When he was drafted during the Vietnam War, Jim Karantonis trained to be a medic and he was assigned stateside - in the psych ward at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.  The former neuropsychiatric technician joins us to reflect on what he learned from his patients.

Benn Ray of Atomic Books visits with his unique holiday suggestions, including graphic novels, sheet music, a hot new cookbook, and one item that seeks to re-invent the notion of what a book truly is.

We visit “Landscape as Laboratory,” the latest round of outdoor works inspired by Evergreen House, the 19th century Italianate mansion that was once home to Baltimore’s Garrett family.

Bill Hennick spent thirty years as a Baltimore firefighter and paramedic, and every day when he came home, he told his adventures to his daughter, Rachel Hennick.  Now, she’s written a memoir about her dad called “Ghetto Medic,” and we’ll talk with Rachel and the hero of her book – her dad.

“Fear and ignorance are the true weapons of mass destruction.”  So says playwright and actress Rohina Malik, whose one-woman play, “Unveiled,” challenges audiences to confront stereotypes about Muslim women.  We’ll talk with Malik as she prepares to stage her production this weekend at Baltimore’s Theatre Project.
