For Baltimore businesses, this is "Clean Your Files" day, part of the city's campaign to encourage more recycling -- with an eventual goal of increasing the rate from 27 percent in the year 2010 to 35 percent by 2015. Public works crews will be stopping by some businesses this morning to pick up old files for recycling. WYPR's Kenneth Burns reports on other ways that the city is trying to move the "Drive to 35."

More than 17,000 Baltimore students miss 20 or more days of school a year. Many of these chronically absent students and their parents say transportation is a major reason for their absences. That’s because nearly 30,000 city students use public transportation to get to school.
