The first formal act of this latest drive to expand gaming in Maryland went exactly as scripted yesterday. A Senate committee approved a bill to allow table games at the state’s five existing slots parlors and add a sixth site in Prince George’s County. WYPR’s Joel McCord reports.

After months of negotiations and media speculation, Governor Martin O’Malley announced on Friday a second special session of the General Assembly to address issues left unresolved at the end of the regular session in April. A drive for expanded gambling in Maryland collapsed yesterday for the second— and perhaps final— time this year when a gubernatorial work group failed to reach a consensus and thus cancelled plans for a special General Assembly session this summer. WYPR’s Karen Hosler filed this report.
