The Baltimore City Council is considering Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake's proposal to require civilian city employees contribute to their pensions. Despite a prediction that fewer Marylanders will travel over the Memorial Day holiday weekend, the state's expecting more traffic at its toll facilities. A state panel has ruled that Baltimore's red light camera task force held a meeting in violationof MD's open meeting laws. MD has a new Natural Resources Secretary, but the Transportation Secretary post remains vacant. Baltimore County residents likely won't see a water and sewer rate hike this year, even if Baltimore City residents do. Baltimore County Councilman John Olszewski Sr. is facing criticism for not disclosing work that he did outside the Council since 2009. Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake will preside over a mass wedding of same sex couples during next month's Baltimore Pride Celebration. Congressman Andy Harris delivered the weekly Republican address over the weekend. MD's fourth casino -- the Rocky Gap Casino Resort in Western Maryland -- will open later this week. A bill that would require companies that win large contracts from Baltimore to hire at least 51% of their new employees from within the city has won preliminary approval in the City Council. The Baltimore City Council is likely to vote today on a "local hiring mandate;" the bill would require businesses that get big city contracts hire at least 51% of their new workers from within the city. Republicans are calling for an independent investigation of Maryland's prison system; Governor Martin O'Malley vows to "root out corruption" at state corrections facilities. Lieutenant Governor Anthony Brown is expected to formally enter the 2014 Governor's race today. Today is the deadline for bids to run a casino in Prince George's County -- only one has come in so far. Plus: Frederick County property tax rates rise, a nuclear reactor at Calvert Cliffs shuts down, Maryland State Police hold their Fallen Heroes Ceremony today, and police and the state Attorney General's office hold "Statewide Gun Turn-In Day" on Saturday.
