We know from our listeners that it is not uncommon to experience interference while driving in your car and tuning into 88.1. We apologize for this inconvenience and want to assure you that we are aware of the problem. A major cause of this interference is the use of portable satellite radios by the cars around you. The power output of many of these radios exceeds FCC limits; therefore, the signal extends beyond the interior of the vehicle. When driving close to one of these cars in an area where our own signal is already diminished, you may start picking up the satellite signal (and whatever they are listening to). Formal complaints have been filed with the FCC regarding the impact of satellite signals. In the meantime, try moving away from the cars around you to see if this helps the problem. As WYPR continues to expand and strengthen its own signal through a digital conversion project, our coverage should be more complete and will make it less likely that you are knocked off by satellite. Thank you for continuing to listen to WYPR at home, work and while driving. Trust that we are doing our very best to bring you the clearest reception so you can best enjoy our local and national programming. |
